I have had a chance to test a new pattern. This pattern is the Big Mouth Bag by Kristin Marshall Graves at KMGhandmade. This fantastic beginner bag is a choose your own adventure. It make three sizes of bags, with three different options for handles. I added custom pocked to the interior. My daughter needed something large enough to carry her laptop as well as all her school books. I chose the large. She is in 8th grade and will be carrying it to school everyday so I chose a sturdy softside vinyl. I lined the vinyl with decovil light that I kept out of the seam allowance. I wanted just a bit of extra stiffness to support the weight of all the books the kid has to carry. I added a layer of foam to have some padding to the bag. I made the flat handles out of the vinyl. I set some rivets on the handles for extra strength. I added purse feet, because purse feet, you always add purse feet. On the interior I added a custom padded slip pocket for the laptop, a zipper pocket and a gusseted pocket for mice and cords and such. I used custom dragon zipper pulls to match dragons on the lining. Overall, this took me only two hours to make, even with the addition of the customizations to it. I love the simplicity of this pattern and the minimal amount of hardware. The base option is to use 1 zipper.
Love that this pattern has so many options. I chose to make large and built like a tank to be sturdy enough to carry all of the books the kid has to carry. The Large is LARGE!! It can carry everything the kid needs all day in there with ease and not look like it is going to burst at the seams. Crank these babies out in time for holiday giving!
