Irish Chain

It is Quilt Block Mania Time again. This months theme is connections. I chose Irish Chain for this month.

I love a good Irish Chain block. I came across this vintage photo years ago.

I don't know who she is or what her story is. I saved the picture to send to my brother because at the time he was building banjos and thought he would enjoy the banjo. I keep coming back to this picture because of the Irish Chain quilt behind her. Most of the Irish Chain quilts I have made have been scrappy and usually take an eternity sewing 1 1/2 inch squares together for a million years. I have a scrap problem. In cleaning and de-cluttering my sewing room I found that I have three gallon sized bags full of 1 1/2 inch scraps. This doesn't even include the 4 laundry baskets full of scraps. It is so hard to throw those scarps away. and I really have way more than I can use. I have found a way to expedite the process of sewing 1 1/2 in squares in to 4 patches then 8 patches then 144 patches. The secret sauce of the pattern uses a fusible web foundation to fuse your pieces to make the process easier and faster. Using this technique you can make a 12 inch block in a quarter the time of just piecing. your pieces together with a much higher accuracy.

You can also head over to my Facebook group and join it to get the pattern under the files section.

Then you can visit all of my fellow designers and get copies of their patterns.
