Blackberry Kiss - Love and Kisses Blog Tour

I am so excited to be part of this blog tour. I saw Sherry's beautiful fabrics and I knew my latest design was perfect for the brilliant pinks and turquoises. The fabric is arriving in stores and is now available for purchase. To find a store near you to purchase fabric from check out Island Batik’s Shop Locator.

I fell in love with the Love and Kisses line when I saw it. I love large, bright and bold prints, but at the same time you need the tiny prints to give texture to the background. Love and Kisses line has the large scale prints to fit in focal fabrics of this pattern and I think my new favorite small scale pin dots for the accents.

Batiks are some of my favorite fabrics to work with. I love their crisp hand. They iron so flat. I have no problems with batiks on the longarm. I know so people are afraid of them on the longarm but they behave well for me. I use my regular glide thread and usuall size 18 needle.

Meet Blackbery Kiss and her big sister Raspberry Kiss

My pup was far more cooperative in posing for the photo than my kid was.

The inspiration for this quilt came from talking with a quilting friend when we could still go places and do things with people in large crowds. We were at a book reading with our kids and we were discussing needing a pattern that had a large focal square for novelty prints. We both love novelty prints and thinking of these for large scale floral fabrics or crazy cat fabric. The quilts finish at Throw 76” x 76” and Queen 88”x88”.

So I had big plans to quilt this quilt with fancy ruler work and repeating the flying geese motifs through the quilting. With my broken arm still in a cast and a complete inability to hold the ruler, I gave up that idea and went with an all over ribbon hearts design. The Computerized quilting only requires enough mobility in my left arm to pull up the bobbin thread. It took me a while after I broke it to be able to do even that. As long as I am doing computer aided quilting the hardest part at this point is loading the quilt. Even then I only have completed 3 customer quilts and 2 of my own, including this one, since I broke it. Some times you just have to roll with the punches.

To celebrate this gorgeous line of fabric, between now and the end of the year, you can get a copy any of my patterns on my Etsy store for 20% off using the coupon code BLACKBERRY.

I love the crisp handfeel when cutting and sewing. The sizing gives it a starched like feel and makes the fabric easy to work with. I love your quilt. It is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing

I love working with batiks because their colors are so vivid and the hand can be stiffer and result in sharper points and more-true measurements.

I like to work with batiks because they don't stretch much, ravel, or distort when seams are ironed. Not to mention that the seams iron flatter, crisper!
